Evening primrose oil is the main ingredient of the product. The ingredient is valued for its essential oil, which is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid. It is essential for the proper functioning of our body.

Fats contained in food are the most concentrated source not only of energy but also of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PFA). These exogenous fatty acids are so-called essential fatty acids, since they cannot be synthesized in the human organism but, in contrast to endogenous acids, have to be supplied with food.

GLA occurs naturally in the fatty acid fraction of some vegetable oils. These include evening primrose oil (EPO), borage oil, black currant seed oil, and hemp seed oil. GLA is present in EPO at a concentration of 8-15% of the total amount of fatty acids; Borage seed oil contains 18-25% and blackcurrant seed oil 12-18%.

GLA is also found in small amounts in some fungi. It is produced in minimal amounts in the human body and is formed as a terminal metabolite from linolenic acid by enzymes such as delta-5 and delta-6 desaturase (Fig. 2). Although GLA is an EFA, it is often referred to as a conditionally essential acid. This indispensability occurs when the activity of the enzyme delta-6-desaturase decreases in the organism.

The formation of GLA is not only dependent on the presence of enzymes. It can also be accelerated by zinc, vitamins B3, B6, C and E, and magnesium. However, it is caused by extrinsic factors such as age, coffee and alcohol consumption, reduced insulin levels, insulin, consumption of saturated trans fats and foods with simple sugars (glucose, fructose) in excess amounts, low-fat diet, dietary protein deficiency, hypothyroidism, and elevated glucocorticoid levels inhibited. Therefore, it is very important to supplement the diet with essential nutrients.

Omega-6 fatty acids (also called n-6 ​​or ω-6 fatty acids) are unsaturated fatty acids whose last double bond is on the sixth carbon atom from the end of the hydrocarbon chain. They are found in fats in the form of acylglycerols. Omega-6 fatty acids belong to the group of essential unsaturated fatty acids (EFAs), i.e. they are not produced by the human organism but are necessary for its functionality and must be ingested from food.

Pure chlorella is a rich source of vitamins and trace elements. It provides the body with B vitamins and vitamins A, C and E, amino acids, chlorophyll, omega-3 fatty acids and nucleic acids. It also contains numerous minerals - iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, selenium and iodine. Chlorella has antioxidant properties thanks to its high antioxidant content.
